The truck driver knows that we should always pay attention to the water temperature during driving. The engine water temperature should be between 80 ° C and 90 ° C under normal conditions. If the water temperature is often higher than 95 ° C or the boiler is open, the fault should be checked.
So what causes the water temperature to be too high? We asked a technician with 20 years of experience in truck maintenance to explain the reasons for the high water temperature he had encountered. It is summarized as follows:
1. The coolant in the water tank is lower than the lowest mark. This is because the daily maintenance work is not in place, and the lack of coolant is not noticed. Add coolant to the specified scale.
2. The belt of the cooling fan installed on the water tank is not tight enough. The slipping causes the speed of the fan and the water pump to be insufficient. The speed of the fan is not enough, which causes the cold air flow of the water tank to be too low. The speed of the water pump is not enough, which causes the circulation speed of the coolant to be too slow.
3. The thermal insulation curtain is installed in front of the water tank. When the water temperature rises, it is not noticed to open the thermal insulation curtain for ventilation and cooling. This is mostly the case of trucks in cold areas in winter.
4. The blockage of the water pipe in the water tank makes the water pipe section smaller and the water circulation efficiency lower, which makes the amount of water entering the upper water pipe of the water tank in the engine far more than the amount of water entering the lower water pipe into the engine. As a result, the cooled water is accumulated in the upper water pipe of the water tank, which increases the pressure of the upper water pipe, causing water leakage in the water tank, and the reduction of the water volume after water discharge causes the engine to overheat.
5. The thermostat fails. The failure or function attenuation of the thermostat after long-term use reduces the opening of the valve, resulting in slow or even interrupted water circulation, and then leads to high engine water temperature.
6. The test standard to determine whether the thermostat can be used is to put the thermostat in water for heating, check the temperature at which the valve starts to open, the temperature at which it fully opens, and the lift of the valve from open to fully open. The temperature at which the valve starts to open is generally about 80 ° C, the temperature at which the valve is fully opened is generally about 90 ° C, and the working lift of the valve is generally 7~10mm.
7. The water pump is faulty. If the truck does not add antifreeze in cold weather, the water in the water pump will easily freeze and the pump impeller will not turn. When starting the vehicle, the belt forces the water pump to rotate, which is easy to cause damage to the water pump.
